Keep Your Hands Off of My Kids
I was raised during a time when the entire community did have the right to verbally or physically discipline the children of the neighborhood, if they were seen acting out or misbehaving on the street or in someone's home. While it worked in the sense that I followed the rules and behaved I only did so out of fear of the adults who were in charge of me, be it my parents, the neighbors, librarians, teachers, police officers, etc. Basically I was well behaved but pretty much terrified of everyone while growing up, which is not a healthy way to raise a child in my opinion. While I did use various forms of punishment, I strayed away from physical discipline as much as possible and whenever necessary I chose other means to curtail an unpleasant behavior in my children. My self and other members from the global community discussed discipline in this live news interview that you will see in this video. Thank you for your support and for watching.

While I agree with the notion of keeping adult hands off of children, I'm still conflicted by the fact that some children behave VERY BADLY and know adults have no recourse to chastise them. How do we address the need to have well-behaved children that have some respect for adults disapproval or scolding?
